Title: Chat room etiquette
Post by: go12_3 on February 13, 2009, 11:44:19 PM
It's interesting how someone enters the chat room, and does a greeting.  We usually greet in return.  But, when someone initiates a conversation, like, "How are you?" and then that person leaves the chat room  without much of a response.  I am aware of the whims of the Internet so that folks have to leave the chat room, but still it would be a curtesy to reply a question and carry on some kind of a conversation than just open space. Even to acknowledge that person and answer a question.  Here we are from all over the world and we can have that opportunity to chat.  But, some of us may be having a bad day, and that's okay. Yet, try to have the common curtesy to say hello and just have a little chat or even a spat!
 ;)

haha i know because of some issues awhile ago, a few certain people see my name and leave right away, i am asking these people to get over it, others have and i want to apologize for anything i may have done to upset you!

I think the names stay in the room for a few minutes after someone leaves.  So if you see their name, they may have just left, and then system takes the name off in a minute or so.

I am getting to know the system, Bob,  and thank you.  I do want to acknowledge american_girl's behavior in the chat room.  She has good chat room manners and is a good listener too.  = )

Yeah there's a bit of a delay before the name actually is removed from the chat room and when you enter it seems to reset. Mm, the new name is a better choice imo.

Then maybe you need to get some cyber-roll-on; try it and see if it makes any difference...

Best,

So, let me see if I understand you correctly.

If someone enters the chat, we are *obligated* to have boring small-talk with that person, irregardless to our feelings about said member?
"Irregardless"? Qu'est-ce que c'est?...

Lol do not want.
Then quite simply you do not have to have - "lol"ling or otherwise - and I was not aware that there was anything resembling a compulsory duty to enter the chat room on this or indeed any other internet forum and contribute thereto while therein...

Best,

Alistair

Why haven't you been banned yet?

Because -- as you can see from his signature -- he's identified himself as "john11inch," and I'm sure that the webmaster feels sorry for anyone who's as "height-challenged" as pokey seems to be.

Haha! You'll be surprised at the variety of people who use the internet. A lot of them are kids who just log on and off without notice. I used to say goodbye and the like but people are surprised by my courtesy. That was back in 2002. Now, I just log off whenever I like, unless I'm engaged in a very very interesting convo that lasted for more than an hour that logging off without notice would be very disrespectful.  ;)

I'm finding out about the ones that come and go. And the ones that stay around for a nice meaningful chat.  Yet, it has been enjoyable to meet some of the members since I've joined,   :)
