Title: Funding for Masters degree
Post by: russda_man on July 09, 2009, 12:01:46 PM
Hi I have transfered to the Masters degree (1 year) from PG dip (completed 1st year) at the Royal Northern College of Music. I was unsuccessful with the Musicians Benevolent Fund award, so I am getting quite desperate now!

Does anyone know of any trusts, awards etc. which I would be able to obtain for September? I am paying in three instalments; £2,600 every four months, so I might not be successful for September, as it is cutting it fine, but for January I might. Basically if I could go through the least hassle and be sure of obtaining this money, that would be even better.

Many thanks
Russ

Get a job.

Seriously, there are few ways to get outside funding apart from loans.  Unless your school offers some sort of assistantship or other awards.  Most other monetary awards in music are for winning competitions.

I have to pay £6,600 in three instalments from September, i.e. £2,200. I have found a website called studentcashpoint.co.uk. There are a few things on there which I think might help. But you are right. I am already teaching at home. It's just aquiring that much money before September which is the problem!
Thanks for you reply.

I guess you've tried this then
https://www.mbf.org.uk/fundingwizard
I'm in the same situation, it's especially hard now - they all keep coming back saying 'due to the current financial situation, we are unable to give even(!) the most deserved students help'....

Great! I may as well give up now! Are you doing Masters or PG dip then?

Artist diploma next year.  Worst comes to worst, find an old (rich) lady willing to sponsor you,
