Title: Weight lifting and playing piano.
Post by: christian4_u on March 13, 2010, 08:50:48 PM
I have developed the beginnings of what if left unattended will become a pot belly. I have decided to start weight lifting and a cardio routine at the gym. The question is, will weight lifting affect my piano playing? will my body get used to being larger and still be able to play as fluently? any thoughts on this matter are much appreciated. As for my playing level, I am advanced.

There's a japanese weight lifter who plays in a t shirt and leather pants.  And he's really quite good, actually.  I saw him on youtube, but I can't, for the life of me, remember his name.
I've been working out in a gym 3 times a week and lift weights for 15 years now, and it hasn't affected my piano playing at all.  You just have to be careful and know your limits and not over do it.

During the winter months I lift free weights for toning, including doing wrist curls.  It has not affected my playing at all.

Unless you actually injured yourself or something, it probably won't affect your playing at all. Except possibly by giving you more energy because you'll be healthier :)
