That is the Eb6 that Peter Serkin broke in a Steinway Model D while performing the second movement of Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 2 last night, and then ripped out of the piano with his bare hand while continuing to play.

You don't say? Seems to be a very sophisticated and delicate pianist...

Well, why not? No one else is going to pull it out for him and if he doesn't do something about it, it's likely to sit there and rattle loudly and render the piece a comedy turn for the rest of its duration.

What I find even more non-standard is, how you seemingly come to be in possession of that very broken string :P

I grabbed it off the stage when I went to get my programme autographed. I've got l33t back stage privileges.
