The February 1st deadline is fast approaching for the Chicago Amateur Piano Competition in May 2012. This is going to be one of the most amazing amateur competitions in the US. All rounds will be video streamed live and archived, the solo final will be broadcast live on WFMT and online and the concerto final with live orchestra will happen at the home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. If you are thinking about it, send in your applications and fee now. If your recording is not ready in time, just let us know when we can expect it.

"
Qualifications:
I. Applicants must be amateurs: the word amateur stems from the Latin amo, meaning “to love.” From this the PianoForte Foundation has created the following definition of an Amateur Pianist: an enthusiastic pursuer of piano playing for pleasure and dedication to the instrument and its repertoire, rather than professional pursuits or financial benefit.
II. Applicant must be 30 years or older by May 23, 2012.
"
why? so if you're 29 you're a professional or you're not an ethusiastic pursuer of piano playing for pleasure and dedication to the instrument and its repertoire? just wonderin' that is all.
