Hi all,
I am just curious if any of you play on Rock, Jazz, RB, or Reggae, or any other type of contemporary "dance" music AND do so with a piano AND have played/studied classical music? I am fairly new to this forum and I am currently working on Fantasy in D minor by Mozart. Funny thing is I find I play much better in rock bands when I practice Mozart or Chopin, or Bach.

like this? i could see how playing some bach could make you better at handling this bach
lol jk i've dabbled in it more as part of back up ensemble for jazz/stage works and a contemporary christian group it was fun and def helped with improv/rhythm piano skills.
you'll tend to invest more into what you enjoy so though we encourage you to keep at the the great standards explore the music that moves you, get after it with hard work and approach it with a high musical and artistic standard. even if people don't like rock they won't be able to say much more than that when your playing is great
also you should explore some of kapustins rock inspired/derived works, they're great fun to listen to.

if you or anyone wants some good free mp3s of his hard to find (soviet recorded) orchestral works from the 60's era, his son anton is a research theoretical physicist (i love the great stereotype the brilliant pianist, has a son, becomes a brilliant russian scienteist!) at caltech and he posted some of his dad's works there for download

do you play organ or keyboard well, if so there's a world of video game music heavily inspired by rock and jazz out there too
even if you dont' get or aren't into cosplay, this chick does it right and actually looks pretty cool as the lightning character, this is one of the better version of live perf i've seen it sounds almost exactly like the ost

You just gave an idea to try with the Bach. I may try it doing a Prelude on synth. I just tell the drummer keep it all straight and let Bach do the rest ! I listened to the Kapustin and I think he stole some of my best rock riffs ! Just kidding, it is very unique and he definatley keeps a rock flavor to it all. Thank for sharing

I study classical music (paino and composition) and I'm deep down on rock and blues =p
