What's your favorite piece by Nikolai Kapustin?

Mine is Spice Island op. 117.

Not really familiar with Kapustin's works. Just purchased his Concert Etudes, Preludes, Impromptus and Toccatina, so will let you know.  ;)

I've got the music  :D

Just made a complete hash of the Toccatina.  :-[

I do like it, though, and it seems like it should be quite managable with a little work. Just have to find the time.

really hadn't responded on this this i love so many of his works i feel like i could probably choose an entire opus (or set) before a single work (or part).

be that as it may i really like the Bagatelle No 6 from 10 Bagatelles Op 59, especially since he pays a little homage/partially quotes the Chopin Op 10 No 12/"Revolutionary" Etude in there towrds the back end of the piece.

should be the one right around 11:40 or so

I like the Toccatina, but, unfortunately, for competitions it seems to be becoming somewhat overplayed.

The Variations, Op. 41 is such a great piece!

My favorite, at the moment, is probably Intermezzo (Concert Etude No. 7), which I'm actually working on right now (which might have to do with why it's my favorite.)

All the concert etudes look like fun!

The variations are amazing!  One of my friends played it this year... I had no idea that it was that difficult of a piece (she showed me the music. oh god why did I look?!)

I really like the etude in minor-seconds.  So quirky, but somehow my ears accept it  ;)

His elegy for piano and cello is really nice.

2nd sonata, last movement.  First piece I heard by him.  As a joke, my old teacher gave me the music and asked me to learn it (this was like 8 years ago)... I couldn't get past the first measure lol.

Sonata No. 2 is my favorite.  It has a very classical structure.

1st mvt: sonata form
2nd mvt: Scherzo
3rd mvt: lento
4th mvt: Perpetuum mobile!

Here's Kapustin's own recording of his last movement.  Though I prefer Stephen Osborne's performance which is simply MUCH faster and more exciting!  I'm glad someone put up Kapustin's own performance of this piece because I can't afford to buy the CD from Amazon Japan.  I really wanted to know how he interprets the opening measures of this sonata because I've had a difficult time interpreting them.

My fave is definitely the pastorale.
