My goodness, his compositions have the sheer beauty that beats their technical prowess!!!! From today Alkan is my "favourite composer"(i never used the term till today)!!!!

I'm currently listening to Hamelin play the Concerto for Solo Piano.

Don't know that Alkan is my favourite composer, but we certainly don't hear enough of him.

had you come across these? the scores suck and i don't think there are any better copies at the moment out there (i think it is way out of print and this is the best we have), but the recording awesome. hamelin does a great job with this too!

Yeah, I'[ve got all of Hamelin's Alkan recordings.  Rather humbling to hear him play.
