Hey all,
Is there such a program that writes out the note letter above the staff on sheet music? It would be quite helpful and easier than writing it myself for thousands of notes.
Of course I could always practice reading sheet music! But until then..

Sibelieus does that for the melody - or one note lines.

Is there such a program that makes me think and exist and get my mail out of the mailbox and feeds me as soon as another program made me get up from my bed, and a third program made me kiss my companion and then, is there such a program that makes me go to work, and another program that makes me do my work and then is there another program that makes me go sleep?
You'd do certainly better if you thought a bit, adding 2 and 2, and learn to see that the notes are already written out and that you need nothing more.
But If you want to waste your time with writing thousands of letters above/below notes, thinking that this helps you to read music, instead of thinking for 5 minutes and then learning to read music properly for a few days, I guess there's not so much I/we can do for you. So you might in all probability stay with your "until then" forever. But if that's what makes you happy, well, then be it.

I agree. You need to learn to read the music (not the note names above). It may seem a pain at first, but it will make your life a whole lot easier in the long run. Hell, even in the short run.

I'm all for reading music - more I'm all for playing music by ear,
but if it helps someone to write down notes so they can play -
the end result is in the hearing anyway.
Hopefully - they will end up not needing the crutch of writing it down in long run.
But I would recommend Howard Richman's website. He has a great book
on learning sight reading quickly.

Writing the notes by hand, one-by-one will probably be more beneficial to you than having a program do it. When you write those letters, it forces you to think each time of what note that graphic represents.

Why don't you practice reading by intervals? You don't have to write down every single note. Just find the first one and read up/down, skip, chord, patterns etc! =)
