Title: Yamaha versus Casio - Video
Post by: wesley84 on April 27, 2012, 07:59:12 PM
What do you guys think about this video?

Any truth to it?

It does seem (from the manual) that the P95 does not have multiple samples for grand piano (only electric piano).

Regards,
Wesley

From what I understand the P95 and P85 piano sample is one velocity layer with filtering to change the timbre.  The Privias do have 3 or 4 velocity layers as well as some filtering, so the video appears to be accurate.  However, I would reject the videos conclusion that this automatically makes the PX-130 the superior instrument.  Well, I do think it's the better instrument at that price point, honestly.  Yamaha lives off the reputation of their more expensive instruments (which blow any Casio away to be sure) but the cheaper ones are not of the same caliber.  But you shouldn't pick an instrument simply based on who has the most velocity layers.

Just play the both and compare by yourself. I had p80 once and it was pretty good instrument
But i played privia once in gc and it was not bad either for half the price...
