What's the most hilarious thing you've ever heard from a non-musician?!? ;D
-
I'm not sure if this is the response you're listening for, but anyhow...
My best friends father once hosted a show of sorts, where some of us did skits, and others played instruments, or quoted Bible verses. He himself got up front, announcing he was going to play a song called "Jail Break" on his guitar.
He promptly picked up his guitar and pick, and began rubbing the pick across the strings, creating a sawing sound, while everybody roared with laughter.
I wouldn't say he's a musician, since I've never heard him play a note on that guitar.
-
This guy I know told a really funny knock-knock joke a while back. As far as I know, he doesn't play an instrument.

1.
(Me playing Fur Elise)
Friends:" Wow your so good that song looks so hard!"
2.
"I can play Revolutionary Etude but I'm not sure if ill succeed in learning Fur Elise."

My colleague at my intership siad the piano and all instuments are 'toys' because you can 'play' on them. In dutch, playing means 'spelen' and 'speelgoed' means toy. Hence he said, you are 'spelen so it is a speelgoed'. Then I asked him what if a professional musician played the piano. Well, he didn't really have an answer for that.
-
I play a piece randomly and every note was wrong and my friend says '' wow~you can play great ''...... well i think so... ;D LOL
-
I heard something like this:
(me playing the violin)
Non-musician: Don't you hold that straight in front? Or are you not good enough?
:)

I was watching an anime just now, and there was a short clip of someone playing the piano.
The title on the freaking piano was freaking "Strainway and Songs"!!!!!!!!!

Well for one thing, japan. But also they can't use the actual name because trademarks and such.
It's still silly though xP

My friend grabbed the copy of my Chopin Nocturnes on the piano one day and glanced at it for a second and was like "HOW THE HELL DO YOU READ THIS, IT'S LIKE CHINESE ON LSD!!"
That one always made me laugh. Also makes you realize how foreign sheet music really is to someone who has never read music before. Sometimes it still blows my mind that I can.

Musicians are really bilingual.

Or in my case, music is my eighth language.

Let me do the honors this time. ;D
Vous ne pouvez pas parler français.

Juh neih kom prah paa.
Oui, je vois, parce que votre français est terrible. Peut-être vous devez apprendre à parler français. Je serais heureux de l'apprendre à vous.
-
Combien de personnes ici peuvent parler plus que trois langues?
-
Ein heir. Und
schlafig schlecht. ::)
Or is it supposed to be 'eine here?'

It is actually "hier", based on my faint memories of German. And if you only speak one language badly, how did you understand my post and reply in German?

We.

Sarebbe fantastico.

Yo no puedo.
In seriousness.. decent English, mediocre music, broken French, terrible Italian, and I slept through a semester of Spanish.

何これ?いきなり外国語の展示会になってしまったみたい。僕だって二ヶ国語話せるしね。

OK.
When would you like to start?
Yes, you can. Stop lying.
I speak good Tamil, decent Hindi, decent Kannada, okay French, good Chinese, decent Japanese, decent Dutch, and decent music. I also have a few others I don't count: three years of high school Latin (which was really interesting, but mandatory at the private school I went to), terrible Malaysian, a bit of Indonesian, terrible Thai, and a bit of German.
EDIT: And of course, English
-
When you say Chinese you mean Mandarin, right? Or Cantonese too? I have been fooling around with Mandarin a bit but I just went to Hong Kong to visit my friend so I thought I should learn some Cantonese. When I got there I realized my inadequacey so I said nope, none for me lol. Maybe it is easier after Mandarin.

Yes, I mean Mandarin mostly but I can speak decent Cantonese as well. My accent is a bit off for both of them, but I'm Indian, not Chinese, so I think that can be excused? Cantonese is a lot easier after Mandarin. Several of the phonemes are very similar, if not quite the same.

And you can play 4 different instruments as well ::)
I have never been an over achiever, so I only know the languages I studied at school, English, Swedish and German, but the last is quite passive now since I never use it. When I was younger I started courses in Spanish, Russian, Italian, French and Chinese, but never really found them useful enough to continue. I have found I get along pretty well with just English (and Finnish of course).

5 if you count flute, which I play terribly....
I never use German either; I learned it in high school in the US where I was required to take Latin, French, and German as languages. I lost fluency in Thai after we left Bangkok when I was 14, and similar circumstances caused me to lose Malaysian and Indonesian. I typically only use English and Tamil when talking to my family.

Hmmm.. Most hilarious thing said by a non-musician?
EASY. Any post by the89thkey.

Yeah, meant BESIDES the piano :)

OK, just misunderstood your post.

Da da.
One here. One person here. I can speak several languages badly. But the point was to read them (also badly) or be able to decipher them. And hopefully be able to pronounce them correctly. I haven't run into too many situations where I've really needed to be fluent but knowing how to get the gist and be able to figure out a few exact meanings has been helpful. And knowing where to go to get a decent pronunciation is helpful too to avoid looking stupid.

Oh, right. Okay. I just misunderstood what you meant, as you said "One here. And badly", so that sounded like it meant that you spoke only one language, not that you were one of us polyglots.
