Title: thoughts on Petrof upright? help please
Post by: justharmony on July 13, 2013, 05:26:03 AM
Looking to sell (gulp) my lovely Petrof upright (49" black finish  125-iv)and looking for advice.  Dealer offered 4500 trade toward my dream piano.  That was when we both thought I'd paid 3600 for it in 2000.  What I really paid for it was closer to 6K, which, given Petrof, I think ought to have appreciated not depreciated, yes?  This assumes, of course, that the piano is in great shape and has been regularly maintained, which it has.  The only bad thing is a soundboard crack (good climate control not an option in the huge open living space in which it sits).  Traumatic to see and hear when it happened (AIGH!), but seems to not affect sound (tech confirms not a problem).

I seem to have a hard time finding a good comparison of Petrof uprights on the market - this because people love them so much??

I'd love your thoughts, please!!
Thanks!
JH

I could be wrong but I doubt what you paid for your piano would have much influence on the dealer's offering on trade in. It's all about current market value and wiggle room within the new deal I suspect. Probably more so the latter !

That said you are trading a good brand piano, they will take that into account. In the end the numbers have to work for you and for the dealer.
