Title: really SOFT piano pieces!!!
Post by: theholygideons on July 19, 2013, 03:07:33 AM
yeah, so I went to a specialist today to complain about faint ringing in my ears and he said I had early signs of tinnitus. I'm hoping it'll disappear eventually =/. Arrgghhh, no more allegro barbaro by alkan, or liszt sonata..

So does anyone know some really quiet piano pieces... nothing above f?

Le Gibet, Ondine, (well there's one spot that reaches a ff, but the rest of the piece you're like playing ppp.  Actually two spots where there's ff, but whatever)

Some Chopin nocturnes!!!

Barber's Excursion 3 is pretty soft.

Sorabji's Gulistan is also very soft.

Pretty much anything, if you stick a good version of these in:

They also make musicians earplugs.  They control attenuation across the frequency range so that it stays proportional to what one would hear without plugs.

The price depends on the quality you need. Your hearing, though, is worth spending on, so regard it as an investment.  The better ones last longer, too.

You can get them from the web (e.g. here (https://www.earplugstore.com/nasopl.html)).

Your local music store may have them.

The cheaper ones can be got from your local chemist/pharmacist/drugstore.
