Post by: florentin on October 15, 2013, 08:36:43 PM
Based on your teaching experience, which piano method has been your favorite? For "Other" please specify title of method in a reply. Thanks!

NONE, don't use a method.  To me, it's often better to just learn pieces in progressive orders of difficulty or ones that you like that are also going to help you.

So if you get a new piano student, you will not consider using a method?
Would you then provide copies of different pieces they are learning, according to level?

I tend to vary depending on many factors, but from the list I certainly favour Bastien, since the pieces are quite nice, children find the books funny, and from a teaching point of view there is an early use of black keys (the C major scale is one of the most difficult scales and should be left for later).

Of course, the decision for a method to be used depends greatly on the age of the student. There was no way, or at least I wasn't aware of a way, to add that to the poll.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Bastien and Faber balance each other out, I feel.  The student determines the approach/method I use.
