Post by: bowbowid on October 17, 2013, 01:37:31 PM
Hello, I just thought maybe any of you have any suggestions for piano competition entrance pieces. I am doing a half an hour performance for the application and struggling on choices and in-between teachers ( My grandma is my teacher and has always been but she is very poorly now and I just cant ask her)
I know I am definitely doing Liszts Tarantella ( absolutely love this) maybe Balakiriev- Glinka The Lark think for the remaining time u need a good Bach piece definitely as well.
Any ideas suggestions let me know.
I have a lost of ideas and but some of them I have allocated for the programm in 1st and 2nd round already

My favorite Skryjabin sonata , no 4, very difficult to pull off (I think one of the hardest to interpret) but is stunning

How about the 1st movement of Charles-Valentin Alkan's symphony for piano solo? If you can manage that with reasonnable accuracy at the desired tempo, you're likely to have both the audience and the jury in your pocket :D

Or the Concerto for Solo Piano first movement.

There is a cut down that Alkan himself suggests as suitable for a morceau de salon, which reduces it to about 10 minutes - same score, just skips quite a bit. Alkan himself is said to have used this version from time to time. The whole original is about half an hour, which might be too long.
