I actually had a company that made custom Chess boards and I have 6 sets at home. I love the game. Sadly I am a terrible player. I will check the site out however, sound like fun.
O.K. I am in.

how the heck do we start a game with a specific member? I hope we dont have to pay..
-
I haven't challenged anyone yet.
This game isn't simultaneous, so I think that the moves you do are emailed...so it might take a LONG time before a game is checkmated.
-
You don't have to pay to play, but you do if you want to play a rated game.
To play with a specific player simply push the invite word next the hsi or her name

i dont know how this screen invites anyone. I think it tells me I have to pay to invite anyone for a game, rated or not:

Ron, have you managed to invite anyone?

Reading more, the only way to invite anyone is to be a member.
The only other way is to create a game and have the other join it.

If you guys want to play "live on-line chess" you can also try: FreeChess.org As the name implies it is free and you don't even need an account to start playing. This is to say that you can log-in as a Guest and start playing using their JAVA Board (no need to download any software unless you want to).
It's really fun!! I hope to see some of you there soon!!

Occasionally, I keep my wits up on www.caissa.com
It's not free but they let you play for two weeks for free after which your handle and any rating will expire if you don't sign up. One can easily challenge anybody and play under different time controls. The boards are great. The whole site works well, even through a firewall.
I used to play chess semi-professionally... (until the East Block crumbled and the market was suddenly flooded with hundreds of new players)

Any boards and URL links to play against computer?
I love the Lite version of Sigma Chess (www.sigmachess.com). It is free and very powerful, but it is only available for the Mac.

This is a bit of an odd coincidence-I play chess as well. Not at a high level, mind you, but I have won some county level tournaments. Maybe I'll check one of those websites out.

I downloaded Sigma Light and I must say that it's really good for a computer. It actually makes blunders that are similar to what a human would do (unlike most computer Chess).
Thanks for sharing!!

I have pretty much decided to join Chessworld.net.
This is a great site, easy to navigate and it really is cheap if you decide to join.
-Chess corner, is lacking in several aspects.
-Caissa, I found to be totally confusing and hard on the eyes. It is also very expensive to join.

-Caissa, I found to be totally confusing ...
Yes, it requires the advanced thinking skills of an accomplished chess player to navigate this site ;D ;D
(Just kidding - calm down!)

Chess is the best game ever invented...great game for taunting too ;D.
