Title: If only I could do the trill on 4,3
Post by: slane on February 05, 2014, 01:13:00 AM
I'm learning Scarlatti l209/k455 and while I can't play it anywhere near like this (actually I've only learnt the first half)

I've got it going at a nice clip, no mistakes and the guitar like thrumming and the upper voice in the right hand sound OK, which it wont if you're going too slowly, but! I can't do the
damn trill.
You have to play it 4,3 so you can play the next two notes 2,1 and I sound like a, well a retard!
Pardon my political incorrectness.

Has anyone got any hints to master a 4.3 trill??

They're a r4ight pain, and most pianists don't like them.  That said, you learn them by doing them - slowly at first and building up speed. 2-3 minutes, 3-4 time a day works best for me for things like this; your mileage may vary. It may seem for a time that you're making no progress at all, but then one day it will click and you'll have it.

Must be a matter of hand structure as well as practice. 43 are my favorite fingers to trill (although I still kind of suck at them all).12 is practically impossible.

Why play 4,3 trill if you can avoid it?
I would play 3243 if it is a short trill, or just 32 if it is a long one.

Fun piece, by the way!

If you need or wish to play a 4.3 trill and it is difficult to you, why dont you "work" the trill with parallel sets? You may wish to have a look to Mr. Chuang Chang book, where he explains how to use P.S. with trills. I assure you that PS works .
Best wishes
