Title: Confused by Granados
Post by: coolpianoman on May 01, 2014, 03:34:56 PM
I am working up the first of 6 Estudios Espresivos for a workshop this month.  However I am confused about how many short variations are in the first set.  I have one recording on Spotify which has 5 variations with the second set of variations starting with the arpeggio based one which is actually marked final in my score.  I have another recorded version which includes this arpeggio variation in the first set making a total of 6 variations.  Sorry if this sounds confusing - it is!  Chris

Gosh a whopping 56 viewed this and no one seems to know the answer.  Surely I have not foxed the experts on here?  Come on people - someone must know  :-\.  Chris

Must be someone from a Latin country who can answer this question or is this piece rarely performed?  Anyone???

Granados is generally not often performed, besides maybe his Goyescas suite for piano.

From what I understand, the 1st of Estudios Expresivos includes: the theme, 4 variations, and a coda (which is referred to as "final" in the piece).

Oh great - at last an answer. So the fast runs marked final are part of the first one then.  Shame - will have to try and play that now lol.  Yes Granados is not played much although it is very inventive and not all obviously Latin.  Thank you.   Chris
