i was wondering if something like this existed. A game where you are shown a note or chord in a sheet music and you have to press the correct key. you are then scored by how accurate and how quickly you completed this task. i can think of this being done in two different ways, either like a videogame with a plug in keyboard or like an external tuner like machine that recognizes the notes aurally. in a videogame it would be a little similar to the way rhythm games work such as DDR, IIDX, pop'nmusic, guitarhero except it wouldn't test rhythm but rather your ability to accurately read notes and hit the corresponding key. i think this would be a popular and fun way to improve reading skills.

Music Trainers (https://www.8notes.com/games/). Some are focused on the visual aspect, other ones on aural abilities. The "interval trainer" is good, but it's only in treble clef. (You can disable functions that could make it too complicated)

thanks. i was wondering if there existed a more elaborate one where you actually have to press down on a piano.
like imagine this game called IIDX
and imagine it was combined with synethesia like this
i think that would be an awesome game. they could make it so you could read it like that or change the mode so you are actually reading sheet music. the sheet music mode could just have regular sheet music and have it scroll from left to right. it would be a really fun way to learn the piano and improve sight reading.

A few years ago I used a an open source Java program called Jalmus that displayed random notes for you to play with a MIDI keyboard: https://www.jalmus.net/Download.html (https://www.jalmus.net/Download.html) Unfortunately it hasn't been maintained and the MIDI part quit working with the later versions of Mac OS/X. I don't think it would be too hard to fix if someone wants to give it a shot.
