Any runners/joggers out there?
When I'm running lately, my feet hit the ground pretty hard. Ditto for jump rope.
How do I get them quiet?
While still actually running. I've got headphones on, so I really don't care so much. Wear and tear isn't a real issue. It's just making a lot of noise. And it's probably not correct form.
What's causing it? And how do I fix it?
Sidenote: I saw a guy pretty much prancing down the street "running" the other day. Definitely not a manly look at all. Not what I want.

Go to a runners shop, they probably have a treadmill or running lane with camera for you there and can usually give pretty decent advice about technique and shoes.
You're not supposed to buy 'Nike initiators' because they would be quiet, you should buy certain shoes because they happen to fit your type of feet.
And about 'dampening' of shoes: Everybody who is even a slight bit up-to-date should know that dampening should be limited to the minimum, since its actually bad for the ankles and knees on the long term, and encourages bad running habits.

Maybe wear sneakers.

i run with a front or mid foot strike as i run barefoot or with minimal shoes. if not that, then i would go this route https://www.posetech.com/pose_method/pose-method-of-running-technique.html

I also run with a fore- mid- foot strike. But I'm not sure by itself is quiet. I have to actively soften the landing to minimize the striking sound.

I think the same time I realized I was "running loud" I also realized jump roping was loud.
I'm leaning toward it being something with the muscles in my legs, lower legs.

Tension in calf muscles, or the lower leg, whatever those muscles are called. I think that's part.
Ignore the tension... loud footfalls, followed by pain in the knee as the muscle pull more on that.
Solution -- Back off, ease the muscle, deeply massage the muscles, break up the tension.
