Hi everyone,
It's that time of the year again for me to choose new repertoire!
This year, I've narrowed down my many choices to three pieces:
1) Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 - Liszt
2) Andante Spinato + Grande Polonaise Brilliante - Chopin
3) Islamey - Balakirev
Please vote above in the poll and comment below with reasons and suggestions for which one to play.
Thanks so much, superman1980

And this piece will be played at competitions and festivals.

Hi Superman1980,
To decide, it would be good to have some idea of the other works in your repertoire and to hear some of your playing.

Hi Michael,
Unfortunately, I do not have any recordings of myself. However, my current repertoire is in my signature and some of my earliest pieces include Sancan Toccata, Bach's Partita 1, Appassionata, and Chopin Op. 10, No. 4.
Thanks, superman

Hi Superman1980,
Then I would suggest the Liszt or Islamey for variety . . . although, maybe Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 isn't the best one of the Hungarian Rhapsodies for you to consider?

Hi Michael,
I doubt variety would be a problem as I will be playing these pieces separately and on separate occassions. I'm more for technical and musical merit. Unfortunately, I have to choose one of these three, teacher's recommendation. So which would you choose?

Hi Superman1980,
Out of those three choices I would rate the Chopin as having the most musical merit. If it were a different Hungarian Rhapsody - any one of the other Hungarian Rhapsodies - then I would suggest the H.R. The No. 2 H. R. is played and performed so much that one wearies of hearing it unless the performance is really, really outstanding and memorable. It is my least favourite of the 19 Hungarian Rhapsodies.
Mvh,
Michael

Hi Superman1980,
How about the Liszt Ballade No. 1? It wouldn't be quite as long as H.R. No. 2, but audiences - I am sure! - would appreciate it much more.

If it has to be a Hungarian Rhapsody then I would do any of them except for the No. 2.
