Title: Kim Davis
Post by: chopinlover01 on September 11, 2015, 12:59:05 AM
Okay, I'm sure you're all familiar with the case of Kim Davis, who was jailed and recently released for refusal to give homosexual marriage licenses after an update from a supreme court ruling, which made gay marriage available for everyone across the country.
I'll state my opinion on it after a couple other people have, so shoot.

I had better not engage in this one for the sake of my life.

Let me say it now...

Someone's head is gonna roll.

Kim Davis holds a legal, paid position, in a legal jurisdiction.  She was paid to conduct business according to the law.  If she did not agree to conduct business per legal mandate, she should have resigned. Period.  This is not a position that allows personal opinion.

Ok stay with dogperson. You already KNOW my thoughts. ;) I'm not going to say anything other than that the very gay people she refused the license to only wanted her to be fined and fired, not put in jail.

You won't post your opinion cause you're afraid it might receive some backlash? Come on now, don't be a wimp. And pretty much this:

Kim Davis holds a legal, paid position, in a legal jurisdiction.  She was paid to conduct business according to the law.  If she did not agree to conduct business per legal mandate, she should have resigned. Period.  This is not a position that allows personal opinion.

Doesn't matter if you think gays or interracial couples or whatever shouldn't get married. As long as they have a legal right to get married your opinion doesn't matter. A civil servant is supposed to comply with the law and fulfill their duties, and if they can't get over their personal beliefs then  they should just quit or get fired. End of story.

The law must come before religious convictions and other silly superstitious beliefs, 2,000 year old books and imaginary friends.

Well done America.

I came across a surprisingly well stated response from the singer for Swedish heavy metal band Amon Amarth:

Writing on his Facebook page, the Swedish metal musician says: "It's okay to have whatever superstitious belief you wish, but you have no right to break the law because of it.

"If your job or a job you are applying for dictates that you perform a duty that goes against your 'religious belief,' feel free to hand in your resignation, or feel free to NOT apply for that particular job in the first place.

"Your beliefs [do] not entitle you to oppress or disrespect women. Not even if they hold the same beliefs as you do.

"A religious congregation is a business. They should pay taxes just like everybody else.

"If your moral code comes from a book written by some desert-dwelling, goat-herding nomads between 1400 and 2000 years ago, you have no authority on what is morally acceptable in the 21st century. Go live in a cave somewhere."

This is also great:

I've said similar stuff, but yeah that's great  ;D ;D
I also saw one about one of the GOP candidates, the one who couldn't remember the three branches of government, and it said "Can't remember three branches of government; still does his job"
