Title: Practice in Warsaw
Post by: oldrabit on September 13, 2015, 01:54:53 AM
My daughter is going to participate 17th International Chopin Competition.  I am wondering if anyone living in Warsaw can recommend any piano shops or schools that my daughter can practice during the Competition in Warsaw.

Thank you very much in advance!

From the competition website:
PRACTISING
Your hotel rooms will be equipped with digital pianos so you all could practice as much as you need (with headphones, of course). Every contestant will also get about 2 hours a day of practicing in the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw (the same place as during the Preliminary Round). An additional opportunity will be provided by the piano brands present at the Competition.

I think you could be the first maverick to succeed in the competition, using some imitations to spice up your performances :)

Look at what happened at Tchaikovsky... Times do change, maybe even in Poland?  ;D

Haha! That would be so funny! So I'd be like

"I will be performing Chopin's Third sonata, the first movement will be played in the style of Martha Argerich, the second Maurizio Pollini, the third Krystian Zimerman, and the fourth... Katsaris?" HAHAHAHA

...Chopin's Third sonata, the first movement will be played in the style of Martha Argerich, ...

OT but have you heard the Novaes recording of this sonata? If not, you should, it's on YT.

Outin is right about the availability of piano's.

I contested in the Chopin Competition twice too, and the moment you get to your hotel room in Warsaw, you'll be overwhelmed by pianos. :)

Glenn

@ outin
Thank you! But  the digital piano at hotel room is not that good for fingers, and 2 hour practicing is not enough...
She is 17 and has no much experience for such a big competition...It seems to me that she needs to practice more than 2 hours...
Anyway, thanks for your reply!

@glennross: Thank you so much for your kind replying! Wow, You've been there 2 times! And I am very happy to hear about the digital piano! That is for sure a wonderful news! So, we don't really need to worry about practicing out side?
Thanks so much again!

And why exactly would this not be possible, my dear sir?

As I said in an earlier post, I've had lessons from age 4 from an excellent teacher, so anything is possible as long as consistency and discipline are present. By the way, I turned 16 some days ago.

"My dear sir" is a girl named Emily, and that's not possible because the Chopin competition happens every 5 years and you have to be 15 to compete.

Thanks for the link dogperson, I remember when prelims were going I had the live stream going. When she came on I had a head-snap and I had to look and see who this was playing. Sort of like what I did for George Li's op. 10 no. 4 ;)

I'm so sorry. I didn't read for the thread title. Warsaw, I was talking about the one in Szafarnia.

The Warsaw competition is a much too high level of Chopin for me.

you didn't take 10 seconds to read the first sentence? You knew it was in Warsaw you gave advice about the hotel rooms in Warsaw.  Just give us links of you playing so we can actually believe anything you say

his audition room posts are pretty good, I gotta say! and the photo galleries don't show names, so if he didn't win :/
Let's not have a dispute about this one guy please?? It's getting to the point where people who don't know anything about the Warsaw competition are on here to argue (which includes me, unfortunately).

And :P I am the "florestan eusebius" user who commented on literally every Chopin Competition video! (Though I'm pretty sure @oldrabit you've gotten so many [well-deserved] compliments on your videos that you probably don't remember everyone's usernames ;D)
