Title: Questions re Brass Wheels vs. Spider Trolley
Post by: gvans on January 28, 2016, 07:38:44 PM
Hi piano tech wizards! I have a Yam C-7, 1985, on factory brass wheels (pretty small). The piano lives in our living room on a rug, to get my wife to buy into it, I have to keep it at a weird angle that is about 135 degrees wrong for chamber music (this enables her to have access to a small stairway closet). Anyhow, I wondered if I changed the wheels to those brass Euro wheels that are 2 or more inches wide, would it be easier and safe to move it for chamber rehearsals? Or ought I to stick it on a trolley (so ugly in a living room)...Maybe I should just forget it and rehearse with my back to the string players.

Any thoughts welcome.

I have a Kawai KG-2D and for all the same reasons, had it mounted on trolley.  Benefits are that it moves easily without damaging the wooden floor and seemingly without affecting its tuning.  I agree that the trolley is ugly but I think its appearance offends me more than anyone else.  Nobody else has even commented.  Cheers, Alan
