Title: Sohmer pianos
Post by: justme on December 31, 2004, 08:53:02 PM
My very special someone just purchased me a Sohmer 5'9" made by Samick. I was in the piano industry a long time and know quite a bit about pianos. But, this was a surprise. We had an old Sohmer upright that he wanted to replace. He knew how much I loved the old Sohmer and then decided to surprise me on this one. I don't know much about the new ones. It won't be in until February and therefore I haven't been able to play it.

Has anybody ever played them? I'm excited but nervous.

Did the piano come in?  How is it?

I actually have a question:  do you know whether it has aggraffes or a bridge holding the back of the strings?  This, I understand, is a signature of the old Sohmers and I am curious whether Samick kept this feature in the new design.  Stuart & Sons (a maverick Australian firm) makes much of this idea although it is unclear to me whether it is really the same concept.
