best performance i heard was live at the leeds piano competition played by severin von eckardstein. Heard him play it again at the last night of the manchester piano festival. He is a name to look out for!

I have to agree with Willster.Von Eckardstein's Prok 3 is the best you'll ever hear.It was a disgrace that he never won that competition. The Leeds stinks! >:(

A good older recording of the Prokofiev 2nd was done by Nicole Henriot, but I'm not sure if it was ever transferred to CD and is still available.

I've heard a very good performance by Alexeev with Prokofiev's 2nd in a concert. Not sure if he's recorded it though.... come to think..... he was a winner of the leeds. Robert probably saw him in concert too. He was here in NZ with the NZSO last year. He also played Rach/Pag variations, but i wasn't too impressed.

Byron Janis has the best recording of Prokofiev 3 I've ever encountered.  Prokofiev would be proud.   :)

He played nr 3 also? I saw him live in the Queen Elisabeth Competition, where he played nr. 2, and won the competition also.
