Title: Yamaha B1 Silent vs Kawai K15 ATX3
Post by: lorcar on October 23, 2021, 04:16:29 PM
so at the end the choice is going to be between these two
- i will RENT, not buy
- i will often play with headphones
- it will be used to learn by me (old man) and my 7yo kid
- Kaway's depth is 5cm bigger
- pricewise, Kawai is €8 more per month (different dealer)

i saw what i found on the web, it seems the consensus is that Kawai is better, however i couldnt find any info about how they compare in headphone mode. Any experience?

any other info/tip/hint is highly appreciated
thanks in advance

Hello,

definitely Go for  the Kawai. The quality of the sound of the headphones depends largely on the headphone not on the source (piano). The sampled sound of the Concert Grand in the Kawai is very good and also not exaggerated as far as reverb is concerned.

I would just play the two and pick the one you like.   Both are going to be similiar quality.

K15 vs K200?   K200 hands down.    The K200 is the first in the line to have the Millenium III action, which is the same action they use from the K200 all the way up to the concert grands.    And, the K200 is going to have a better sound.

Now that you have crept up to the K200 ... take a look at the ST-1.    They are priced between the K200 and K300.    I went into the shop thinking K300 which was right on the edge of my budget.   I went with the ST-1 because A) I thought the sound was significantly better than the K200, and almost as good as the K300 and B) the music desk on the ST-1 is just awesome.   It's marketed as an institutional model, but all that means is it's built stronger and doesn't have as intricate of a design.   Personally I like the looks of them better because they are so simple, but that might not be the case with alot of people.

After the negotiations I think the price difference between the K200 and ST-1 was something like $800 US.   It was a no brainer.

But if all you can afford is the K200, it's a great piano and I wouldn't even consider the K15.   They are just two different animals.

Good luck!
