Title: "WINTER WIND" Etude
Post by: bubblessomewhere on October 13, 2022, 06:46:02 AM
This etude has very many repeats for a just 4 minutes long etude..and almost all the repeats come in the same dynamic (f to ff)
Do you have any tips how to play NOT boring?

In my opinion you need to work a lot with colors. Sure, the dynamic is FF or F but there are a lot of different FF:s and F:s you can play with, some slightly louder, some slightly softer, some more driven, some more laid back, all with different balance between the fast notes, the melody, and the other chord notes. Working with stuff like this should give you options to make the piece more interesting to listen to.

This particular Etude was considered by Rubinstein to be the most difficult, I don't particularly feel that way but it is certainly difficult. The best advance I can give is to coupe it with his chromatic etude and octave etude. The other thing I've discovered is not to practice them for too long. Personally I'd sight through the first 12 set once, then the next 12 set once through. Provided it is musically appealing keep it that way, rather than try to reach the standard of the great pianists. Good luck.
