Title: Problem with practicing during festive days like Christmas
Post by: wankimx3 on December 25, 2022, 04:15:52 AM
Merry Christmas everyone!!

Somehow for this day, I feel increasingly unmotivated to practice piano and when my mom forced me to practice for my own sake, I couldn’t. I felt lethargic and didn’t want to practice in such a festive day. My family and relatives don’t celebrate Christmas, but I always celebrate it by myself every year and just didn’t want to stress myself and only wanted to relax and have fun.

Well it’s not the case for my family. My mom believed that today is only a normal day and felt perplexed about why I will make such an excuse of not practicing during Christmas. I just don’t want to stress myself :(

Honestly, i don’t hate piano. And I’m even a piano student studying in a music college. Piano made me accomplish many things that I don’t usually accomplish and let me appreciate music better. But I just don’t want to ruin my festive mood to practice piano cos it will stress myself out 😭

With my perfectionist attitude, i often feel frustrated and burnt out after practicing because I couldn’t get the pieces done well. I’m afraid of stress, disappointment and failure. That’s why I didn’t want to practice during holidays like this one today 😭😭😭

Sorry guys, for ranting here. The whole point of me saying these things is to ask you guys how do i stop feeling festive about my favourite holiday and just go practice my damn piano? 😭 I feel unmotivated and don’t feel like it to practice my scales, exam pieces and sightreading, which I hate the most because I couldn’t even make music. Do you guys have any suggestions? :’( I’m so sorry to trouble u guys 😔😞

I didn’t practice on December 24th. My teacher has holiday and therefore I can relax a bit. Burnout is certainly worse than having a little bit of relaxation.

It will actually improve your playing to have a 'rest day', sometimes. Bodybuilders have normally two every week, gymnasts have them, pretty much all athletes do.

On a purely physiological level, they are beneficial. But from the point of view of artistic quality and psychological motivation, absolutely necessary.
