Title: Arpeggios blind-sighted?
Post by: scout on March 30, 2005, 09:32:02 PM
Hi,

I'm wondering if I should be practicing arpeggios without looking at the keys.  I'm having some troble with this, mainly because the thumb and 3rd/4th fingers go to a slightly different place each time.  It's really hard to remember where they should go.

You must not "remember" it... it must be a reflex. You must not "think" of where it is placed, it's faster than that. Of course I don't say you think of something else, but just think about, ok im doing this arpegio, with those three notes who allways repeat an octave higher, so here it is. Where your fingers go is reflex.

I find its really a question of comfort. The more comfortable you are with your fingering, the easier it will be to get it right every time. Chopin's Etude in Cm (op.25 no.12) really helped me with my arpeggios.
