Title: Summer Keyboard Festivals
Post by: haarmonika on March 31, 2005, 05:21:05 AM
Could you please suggest Music Festivals that you personally enjoyed/or are looking forward to attending.
I have only been to two so far=
- Kodály Summer Institute in Kecskemet, Hungary
- New Orleans Keyboard Festival - masno.org (I might return here this summer)

A few close friends have suggested these to me=

I have been to some of these, and know about some others.  How old are you?  Some of these are VERY different:

Interlochen - best summer I ever spent - I was in high school.  I don't know what it would be like for college age.

Aspen and chatauqua - I believe are intended for college age stuident who are advanced enough to consider being professionals.  I think it might be tough getting into these.

Piano Festival Northwest - not the same at all.  You probably won't play, unless you get selected to play for a master class.  It's all master classes, lectures, and recitals.  No piano playing or practice time like the others.  Definitely geared to adults / piano teachers / adult pianists.  Some students go, though.

That's all I know.

At interlochen you have to wear a uniform and get up before 6AM and I heard there is no tv or phones there and this would be your summer vacation for nearly $10,000 dollars!

Well, it's true - I believe they still wear uniforms - navy knickers, light blue shirts and socks, and red sweaters.  It's kinda cool, actually.  It's also true - no phones, no tv.  You;ll never miss them.  Trust me.  You can't beat the atmosphere, or the people!  Worth every dime and every minute!
