Personally, I love the way Pollini plays. I find every single recording of his is the way I like that piece played. Even pieces I have heard for the first time played by another pianst, when Pollini plays it, its my favorite! (I have a belief that the way a person first hears a piece is the way they expect it to be played). But, I have friends who say that Pollini is eerily perfect and has no expession. Maybe hes perfect but he definately has expression!!Anyway, I was wondering what the people on this forum think of Pollini? he isn't mentioned here much...

I personally like him a lot. But, I agree that he isn't the most creative with his interpretations. I don't have a problem with that though. I really admire his recording of the Chopin Etudes.

i only have his cd featuring Schönberg's works and Webern's Variations. I also have heard his Debussy etudes....would love to hear his Boulez 2nd sonata.
He certainly seems to be *quite* technically adept. It seems like he puts a lot of effort into what he does, so i assume he follows scores closely. However, I also feel these he plays these modern works a bit too coldly. They may be modern, but that doesn't mean they're cold purely intellectual compositions.
sorry i dont have more to say, im useless as always

I love Pollini - you just can't "disagree" with his interpretations.

I rather dislike his interpretation of the fourth Scherzo.
IMO, his etudes are waaaaay to fast. I find it just boring.

I think his recordings of the etudes are inspiratioinal! :P
