Title: otto altenburg 5'9"

I'm currently considering an used 17 years old Otto Altenburg 5'9" grand as a second piano for my wife's student to bang on.  I would like to know if any one can share their experience on this piano.  Assuming both piano are in similar condition would this be a better choice than a 77 Kawai KG-2C?

If it's in good shape, I highly reccomend it. My teacher has the same piano, though I'm not sure of the age. The action is rather heavy though, which makes it excellent to practice on. So as long as it's in good condition and it feels good to you, go for it.

These are stencil pianos made by various builders for Altenburg's Piano House in Elizabeth NJ.  Web address:  www.altenburgpiano.com (https://www.altenburgpiano.com)  There have been a number of different builders; I've heard both Samick and Neindorf (a German firm) but there are probably others. 

If you get a serial number, call Altenburg.  I'm sure they'll be able to tell you who the maker was.  And with any used piano, always have an independent piano technician examine the instrument before you commit to its purchase.
