Title: useful exercise: walk onto the stage and bow
Post by: tds on April 11, 2005, 12:38:06 PM
when you are rehearsing in the hall you will be playing at, take a little time to do this exercise. do it several times until you feel comfortable. it works like a charm. best, tds

ps. of course, you need also to smile AND believe that the audience loves you!....seriously, that is.

it won't work too well, if you don't love your audience and yourself, first. note: to love oneself here means self acceptance, honesty and self respect. best, tds :D

The thing that really works for me is to smile! I always try and look 100% confident to the audience, (even though i am absolutely terrified inside) because if you look confident when striding on to the stage your audience will also believe in you.

I also take time to adjust my stool, settle myself and wait for complete silence from the audience - you have to act as if you are in complete control even if you're not!

that's for walking on the stage in concert! and i completely agree with you - i do the same except for one thing: when i get by the piano, i take 2-3 seconds before bowing to smile and look at the audience (or at least they think i'm looking at them - actually i prefer looking across the hall over the heads, i don't wanna recognize anyone there :) )

when you are rehearsing in the hall you will be playing at, take a little time to do this exercise.

thanks, i'll try this. what i actually do is: first time i go to rehearse in the hall i will have to play in, i sit at the piano facing the empty hall and i imagine it filled with people. i don't start rehearsing until i have the "full-hall" feeling.

Just reading this is making me nervous.

one of the factors that generates nervousness is unfamiliarity. try to get yourself familiar with this exercise. as after, you WILL have to face your audience and play FOR them when you walk to the stage. no?

best, tds
