Title: Chopin's Funeral March
Post by: gabriel on May 03, 2005, 05:28:22 AM
Heya. I'm listening to a Funeral March by Chopin, but it isn't the one for the score I have. I want to know which March this is. Here's a description of the song:

Starts real quiet, left and right hand plays at the same time for a few bars.
Quarter, dotted eighth, eighth, quarter is the rhythm. (approximately)
Very slow
Then the right hand's melody: quarter, eighth, two 16th's (could be an ornament though), quarter. (very unsure)
Left hand sounds like its alternating between two chords.

Sorry guys, my description is really poor. Can't seem to be able to focus at the moment. I'd do down to my piano to find out the melody of the right hand I just described. I will try and figure it out tomorrow.

If you have any idea which Funeral March it is, and have the score for it, would you mind telling me where I can download it? Or perhaps, you can send it to me.

It's okay if you guys don't know what I'm talking about.. I have a feeling I made no sense at all. =/

I'd really like to play this song, but if I can't find out, tough luck for me.

Chopin wrote two funeral marches. One is from the second sonata (opus 35). The other one is opus 72 no. 2 in C minor. I think you mean the last one. You can find it here: https://www.sheetmusicarchive.net/dlpage_new.cfm?composition_id=571

I've never heard of the posthumous one - but chances are Gabriel was hearing the much better-known March Funebre from the second sonata in B-flat minor (2nd mov.).

The Prelude Op. 28 No. 20 is a funeral march too.

Kassaa, I downloaded that sheet music, and it's not the one that I'm talking about. Anyone have the sheet music for the other funeral march?

Thanks for the replies everyone

Has the real funeral marche (again, it's in the op. 35 sonata).

In op.35? Does that mean that the march I listened to is in the sheet music from the link Kassaa sent me?

You listened to the the "Marche Funebre" (third) movement from Chopin's 2nd Piano Sonata in B-flat Minor, Op. 35. You probably have the sheet music to the posthumous funeral march.

Yep the one I have says Oeuvres posthumes, Op. 72, No.2. Where can I find the third movement? Any ideas?
