Title: Bugs and technical problems.
Post by: nilsjohan on September 20, 2001, 03:10:53 AM
Piano Forum is recently-launched and we are still developing the software for the bulletin board. If you experience any bugs or technical problems, please report them here or send an E-mail to: admin@pianoforum.net

There are sometimes problems to send posts with the browser Opera. At the moment we therefore strongly recommend you  use Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator version 4 or later.

Dear Webmaster (Johan?)

Thank you very much for your kind response to my question
regarding word limits for postings.  I appreciate your taking
the time to write me back.  I'm sorry if this is not the
appropriate place to thank you, but I'm still not clear on this
and that regarding the Piano Forum site, being low-tech as
I am.  For example, what is "URL"?  I've no idea!

Thank you very much for changing the character limit from
5,000 to 10,000 characters.  Tending to blab on as I do, I
appreciate that!  Just one thing.  What does a 10,000
character chunk of writing look like space-wise?  If you could
provide some kind of sample of a 10,000 character piece of
writing, users could then have an idea of how much they
could write to stay within the limit.  Most folks won't worry
about such things, I guess, but I do enjoy the luxury of
"holding forth" at leisure--to the annoyance of some and
(hopefully) to the pleasure of others.

Anyway, thank you very much for your kind response.  I
hope you will be pleased with the response to Piano Forum.

Sincerely,

Mark Porter

P.S.  What's a "refresher" button?  Never heard that term
before--sounds British.  Anyway, my computer ignorance
rears its ugly head again--sorry!

I am sure you are not the only one to be unfamiliar with some of the technical terms used on this forum or on the Internet in general.
If you or anyone else are running into problems or simply don't understand how things work, feel free to post your questions here and I will do my best to explain.
Now to your questions.

URL (Uniform Resource Locators) is an address to a specific page on the Internet, ie https://www.pianoforum.net or https://www.pianoforum.net/pfshop/pfshop.htm

A typical line of text in a Piano Forum posting is 50-60 characters. For example your posting above is approximately 1000 characters.

The "refresh" button is usually located close to the back and forward buttons in your browser. As most pages on Piano Forum are dynamic (not static) they change every time somebody posts a message or logs in or out. You can use the refresh button to reload a fresh version of the page you are currently viewing.
