Title: Scale Break
Post by: espositoj on March 02, 2015, 02:35:00 PM
I own a 1918 Steinway XR (M scale) and have noticed a continuing problem, even after replacing the bass strings. The transition note B2, where the cross takes place from the bass to the treble bridge, has a decidely nasal tone. Both downbearing and bridge appear fine, no cracks, soundboard ribs seem tight. Any suggestions what might be causing this and remedies to eliminate or mitigate the problem? My tech and I thought it could be the agraffes, since the termination points at the bridge seems solid. Thoughts?

Sounds like it needs voicing.
