Damn right.

Your repertoire defines who you are as a person.

I'm afraid mine might say I'm broad but often half baked.  :-[

Fugues are never dissociative. And I am not AJ. I don't play Chopin 10/1, for starters.

That's the name of the condition; Dissociative fugue.

Do you want me to call it psychogenic fugue then?!

As long as you are thinking about types of fugues, I'm happy.  8)

Nonsense. That was last century. Now it's the Ligetti ones. Keep up.  ::)

I haven't played any of them. I do have the sheets.  Think Chopin Revolutionary in double octaves in contrary motion written on 3 staves, still with the RH bit (also doubled)  and with  it's own special notation to give some special effects here and there.

Still, not a Bach fugue.

Those are on a league of their own!  I would gladly learn a ligeti etude over a Bach fugue any day.

She seems like a very nice human being. She's a very good pianist, no doubt. What cadenza did she play here? Somehow, it didn't sound very tastefully composed to me. I hope Mozart didn't compose that! The whole performance was good.. but not exceptional enough to make a lasting impact on me. She's great with Liszt.. but with almost everything else, I always feel that something's missing. Her Chopin is sometimes very good too. All this is IMO of course. Others may perceive this very differently.

I really don't know. The Ligeti ones do seem to have acquired a "flavour of the month" status and this is often without reason.

Of course, 18 is also a rather less intimidating number than 100.

...which is something that you don't do with Valentina Lisitsa.

As to restraining orders, I have to admit that I've yet to encounter one in practice that provides that the person against whom it is issued must not listen to or watch videos of the person on whose behalf it is issued and, although I'm no lawyer, I imagine that it would be very difficult to effect such an order successfully...

I wonder what Ms Lisitsa would think of this discussion. Actually, no, I don't, any more than I get what this obsession is with her...

I have no problem understanding R-4's obsession with her. Young people need their day dreams. We just get so cynical, rational and bored with people when we get old...

rough translation:

"Valentina Lisitsa will be playing at the "Mozarthaus Vienna" at October 30th 2012, 7:30 pm.
She will talk about and play works from Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Beethoven and Chopin, and also talk about her life as an artist. Afterwards, the audience can ask her questions.
Tickets cost 20€ (~25 $?), along with that you get the DVD of her Royal Albert Hall recital and her newest CD for free."

I will probably go (if I can still get a ticket). Any questions you want me to ask, rachmaninoff4ever?
