A silly question: do pianos have a gender ?

Yeah I know it sounds perfectly stupid, a piano is an object, not a being but personally, I can't help considering that the piano I'm playing is female (of course, I would never touch a guy this way  !!!)

And you ? Do you have thoughts about it or do you just consider "It's an object, period." ?

Not just an object.  Mine is a man for sure who is also in touch with his feminine side  .

This is definitely not meant to offend anyone, but personally I'm glad I've grown out of thinking within genders. Does my piano have a gender? no, but character, yes. It is more than just an object, I do communicate through it to say the least. Another funny thing is that I really can't stand white pianos.

Obviously, "piano" is an Italian noun and therefore is masculine in gender.

However, I'm not Italian and since English doesn't use gender, I don't usually think in those terms.  To me, establishing a gender for a piano is right up there with giving your automobile a name.

Just "my baby," but I haven't given much thought beyond that.

My friend said that all pianos with three pedals are male reffering to you-know-what, but I think that's just stupid. Well, she's a little bit more crazy then me so...
