Pronunciation

Fun question... What's the correct pronunciation of:

Acciaccatura??? I've heard 3 different pronunciations...

A-ki-a-ka-choo-ra
A-chack-a-too-ra
A-catch-a-too-ra

I can't believe there's so many discrepancies on the pronunciation.

Yep, born in Dundee. And while I do try to keep politics out of it on this forum, I consider myself very much Scottish, not British.

Why? It's a word originating from Italy from several centuries ago, and since then it has been appropriated and used by various cultures internationally. Discrepancies in pronunciation were inevitable.

@ronde - don't worry - wasn't interested in talking about politics. It's just nice to know there's another Scot in the forums.

@mjames - granted, that is a good point. Although it may have been adopted by other cultures, usually the pronunciation is kept the way it is. We say menage a trois and deja vu roughly how the french would pronounce it. We don't usually bastardise the pronunciation.

What's your opinion mjames on the pronunciation?
