As I think that Czerny's Piano Concerto is not very well-known and is not discussed in this forum, I'm curious to know your opinion on it.
You can listen to the full Concerto (and others by Field, Mozart, Ries) at https://www.classicaldiscoveries.com/mp3.php.
Regards,
Hummel

I have visited that site and listened to the Czerny and others.
It is refreshing to hear something other than the small amount of concerto's that have been recorded countless times.
I like many of Czerny's works. Nothing profound, but sparkling and witty.
Long live the forgotten concerto's.

If you are interested in more little known composers of the Romantic period, surf to:
- Joachim Raff: https://www.raff.org/concerto.htm
- Franciszek Lessel: https://www.swissclassic.ch/cgi-bin/programm/hooks.cgi?f=rm&id=2822ec4864f348fe27bb1524142cfd4408b6
Does anyone have any recordings or sheet music by Lessel (who is very much Chopin-like)?

if any of you have talked with me in the past, you know that i am the biggest enthusiast for this series. anyone else besides me and mike that love this series?

WOOOW it's a very attractive concerto, i think it surpasses hummel concertos
they are also somhow similar to ferdinand ries concertos recorded by naxos.
and i'm another big fan of hyperions romantic piano concertos specially litolff.

Pity most of the concerto's aren't that good (from the Hyperion series), they just lack the content of lets say, Brahms or Rachmaninoff.

They are not all good and i guess it is a matter of personal taste, but I think the Henselt, Bortkiewicz, Massenet and Arensky, all deserve a place in the regularly played concerto's.

possibly, I have not listened to them all. But I almost vomited after hearing the Sauer.

amen to that again. i think most of the hyperion concertos are great. also, the sauer no 1 concerto is one of my favorites. its john ireland's legend that almost made me vomit.

i agree that most of hyperions romantic piano concertos aren't good enough to be regularly preformed in todays concert halls but they are entertaining and they have some nice moments like henselt, sauer, medtner
BUT there are some that deserve to be a standard repertoir like the concertos of litolff
these concertos are masterly written and they are as good as any concerto in the standard reperoir if not better
my favorite concerto in the serious is kullak
while it isn't as good as the other concertos, i find it very very inresting and attractive
many hate it thou.

I love the Kullak/Dreyschock disc, it is a good pairing. Delightful music.
I hope the series continues to dig up some rarely/never recorded concerto's.
There are some concerto's that do need another outing such as the Thalberg and Stavenhagen. I hope they do the pabst and some Pixis concerto's as well, as I dont think they have ever been recorded.

i have seen the score for the pabst, but not for the pixis's. how do they look? i can expect the pabst to be good. it has some heavy bravura writing in it, and also a massive 1st mvot cadenza.

hahaha, its just insane how many concertos are in the common repertoire, but there is reason for it....but the reason is depressing.
btw - i LOVE the sauer1, and scharwenka 1 and 4, and bort, arensky, paderewsi, and quite a few more.

The Sauer is a bad combination of the second Brahms concerto and the 9th Symphony by Beethoven. It sounds to "obligated" and uncreative. I can't explain it that well, but in the first movement for instance. "Let me do some difficult arpeggios and octaves, then repeat the the theme with piano, then repeat with orchestra". It sounds to sectionised. I do agree on the Paderewski, that is truly a great concerto.

the sauer isnt the most profoud, but love the thematical material, doesnt sound like anything else to me.
