Title: New pianostreet family thread!
Post by: morningstar on February 19, 2009, 12:29:30 AM
Right since the last one was locked thought I would start a new one. Only can we please try to stop this from becoming bad enough to be locked? I know that's like trying to stop the sun from setting but try anyway ;D.
OK for those who don't know what this is about, basically choose the members of pianostreet you would want to be in a sort of virtual family and make up a family group. Might be easier to make an example:

Tds: Brother
Thal: Dad
Go: Mum
Pianochick: Sister
Wolfi: Mad uncle :P

etc etc. Generally it might be better to ask the person first before you put them in yours as they might get annoyed at something...anyway. Enjoy!

Should we all therefore assume you to be well in favour of persistently bickering and squabbling parents?

Best,

Alistair

Don't all parents fight sometimes?
I could not speak any more than could anyone else for "all" parents in this or any other regard, but the word that I used was "persistently", not "sometimes"...

Best,

Alistair

Interesting selection, you must be the first to add boy/girlfriends into the list. :P

I notice "thal" seems to be a popular choice, does he have kids anyway? I've never seen any mention when I browse through the forums.

Well, I've got a boyfriend, so that doesn't apply to me, but I'd suggest no-one else is doing it because boyfriends aren't really part of the family till they marry you.

and Thal...he did sort of foster father some of us for a bit...reminding us to do homework and bring him beers etc.  :P

Yes, I see what you mean. Although, I don't have a boyfriend, I don't think you would count people like that as family until marriage.

I was referring to real, solid, un-cyber kids. LOL

I have none and it will stay that way as i cannot stand kids. Also, my longest relationship with a girl is about 3 weeks, so the subject has never come up.

I view kids as a 16 year minimum jail sentence and an unjustified drain on resources. I much prefer banjos as they are cheaper and you can lock them in a box when you don't feel like playing.

My cyber children on here are sufficient for me, although i think i am an unwise choice as father.

That's your prerogative, of course.

Also, my longest relationship with a girl is about 3 weeks, so the subject has never come up.
Not only the subject, perhaps...

I view kids as a 16 year minimum jail sentence and an unjustified drain on resources. I much prefer banjos as they are cheaper and you can lock them in a box when you don't feel like playing.
Amusing as that may be on the surface (and I have no children myself, either), I should perhaps point out that not only were you a kid yourself once and perhaps, by your own implied admission, "a 16 year minimum jail sentence" for someone as well as an "unjustified drain on (their) resources" but also that I doubt very much that anyone, including the possessor of said resources, even compared you to a banjo, favourably or otherwise.

My cyber children on here are sufficient for me, although i think i am an unwise choice as father.
Well, at least that lack of wisdom (in indeed that's what it actually is) is someone else's and not yours; that said, I can well understand why you would consider anyone who has chosen not to be a real parent to be a less than ideal choice as a cyber one...

Best,

Alistair

Nobody knows...I think he's either banned or he left because he got sick of being labelled as a pedantic, over-hormonal, self-righteous teenager.

I've read his posts, although he was a bit quick in his response and didn't fully give situations some though and the fact he used sarcasm alot to convey his points, I think people misunderstood his intentions and labelled him wrongly as "trafic-warden" and "tank-top wearer" and "mad, psycho, Scot". No wonder if he's left.

Although, I don't know if every young Scot is like him, I've never been to Scotland yet, I think people were slightly too forceful in their opinions. Same with other members (a.k.a "lucylucy"), I don't know if every, young, French female is like her so people shouldn't quickly jump to conclusions.

It's amazing how we type without thinking at times. Where ever this person is, we shouldn't really concern ourselves until their return, should that happen. The same applies with everyone else. It's an online-forum where hardly anyone actually knows someone else in real life, so why concern ourselves?

P.S. I've been reading books recently, thats why I'm writing psychological, lateral sort of stuff. Must be female hormones. :P

As "retro" said, you seem to be the reincarnation of a former member.  :-X

Hello gwk.  :'( ;D

This is what is frustrating. Is it because I can sympathise and see things from other people's perspective? My judgement is not clouded. I can see why he was undesirable to talk to, but I can also see that he wasn't that bad. I look at both sides, not just one. I'm not going to follow the crowd and voice what everyone else is saying. Some people have even said he deserves a second chance, should he ever return.

And, if you want to assume I'm someone else: please yourself! LOL, I know I'm a Welsh female adult, not a Scottish teenager. If that is what you assume, that I'm someone I'm not, fine...I'm still going to post what I think, because I spent most of my life in Ohio where no one listened to what I had to say.

Even so, I wasn't just listing "GWK", I had mentioned other members too. People can be a bit "quick-off-the-mark" and jump to conclusions. Why deny it? Anyone can do it!

Only you, and retro have come forward and voiced this "I am another member" theory, and I invite others to do so if they think otherwise. I know who I am, and that's all that matters. ;)

Enjoy your evening!

One's "forum personality" cannot be judged based on one's posts alone. If you had seen him in chat you would understand more. Of course all scots aren't like that! Just like all French are not like lucy, if they were France would cease to exist ;D
Now can we please get back to topic? Trying not to have this incarnation of the PS family thread closed.

It's interesting how a single thread and spread apart in diverse directions....hummm ::)  Hopefully, we can get back to a single thread, perchance?

LOL, yes. I've seen that in a lot of threads. I imagine it must be annoying for the authors, indeed: let us return to originality. ;)

And there I was, continuing to labour under the misapprehension that English was the preferred language of this forum; ah, well...

A word of advice; if you do succeed in accomplishing the genetic miracle of morphing into a piano, do try to ensure that you have three pedals.

Indeed, being in the rather adavantageous situation of recently having been able to replace my grand by an other, better grand with besaid three pedals, I would highly recommend to take this recommendation into account, before you consider tackling the aforementioned miraculous metamorphosis, since, whereas scientists might have witnessed actually such metamorphosis every once in a while among rather seriously interested pianists, I do not know yet of a documented scientific observation which proved that, after having accomplished this rather complex and challenging task, these pianists would have been able to subjoin additional technical components like pedals to their newly created appearance.

Thats one if the best Alistair impressions i have ever seen.
Then you are either referring to another Alistair or you need a sight test pronto; if the latter, then let's demonstrate why, as such an impression, it falls so far short.

Indeed, being in the rather adavantageous situation of recently having been able
"recently" and "having" need to change places

to replace my grand by an other, better grand
"another" is one word, not two

with besaid three pedals,
"besaid"? - not a word with which I am familiar; may one presume that "the said" or perhaps "the aforesaid" is intended here?

I would highly recommend to take this recommendation into account
"would" is superfluous, so is the tautological phraseology and "highly is better substituted with "strongly"

,
this comma is superfluous

before you consider tackling the aforementioned miraculous metamorphosis, another superfluous comma

since, whereas scientists might have witnessed actually such metamorphosis every once in a while
"actually" should appear between "might" and "have"

among rather seriously interested pianists,
interested in what?

I do not know yet
"yet" should appear between "not" and "know"

of a documented scientific observation which proved that,
the past tense is potentially or actually misleading here, since any such observation would be expected to prove something for all time, so the present tense should therefore have been used instead

after having accomplished this rather complex and challenging task, these pianists would have been able to subjoin additional technical components like pedals to their newly created appearance.
leaving aside the question of whether "conjoin" might be better than "subjoin", even in such as world of advanced genetics as one would need to contemplate here it would be impossible either to conjoin or subjoin any such "components" to an "appearance" per se.

3 out of 10, would you say? Or am I being unduly generous?

Best,

Alistair

Since no such language exists, your desire remains unrequitable and you've therefore not received one.

I admit, I am a beginner ;D (hmm, perhaps another superfluous comma  :-\ )
It's not the comma that's superfluous there, I fear, for, as I indicated above, it's not possible to be a beginner when there is nothing at which to be one...

You forgot that it was all one sentence. Surely it deserved a full stop in there somewhere. After metamorphosis perhaps?

If you mean pianowolfi's post (and I assume that you do), I have to say that there were plenty of issues, to some of which I drew attention as they were worthy of consideration in the context instigated by Thal, that undermined any potential perceived imitative content (intentional or otherwise) far more obviously than the absence of the full stop that you mention, which I take to be of considerably less importance in that context.

Had I ever done such a thing, I would have had at least that experience of tapeworms. I said that I had none. That is what I meant. No more, no less. I hope that the sentence length here does not bother you any more than the tapeworms of which I have no experience bother me.
