Thanks for that. I think his main contribution to music will certainly be seen as making free improvisation legitimate in the West. Prior to Jarrett and outside certain restricted idioms such as jazz, it was somehow not quite proper. What peculiar physical positions he adopts though, especially that one where he crouches over the piano with high shoulders and straight arms; that would make me sore for a week in all sorts of places. I just tried it now and I can't even reach that position, never mind play in it. Is he a very small man with unusually short arms ? The strain on his neck must be frightful.

Interesting. I have many of his recordings but have never seen him play until now. All things considered I think I shall stick to just listening !

I guess you can't excel at every different style. But Jarrett comes closer than any pianist out there.

With that said, I've heard far worse Mozart.

he doesnt only beat lang lang at body emotions, but also in terms of musicality also. lang lang is a disgrace (sorry lang lang fans  ).

   My word he does. I don't know if you have seen full concerts of his but this small clip barely touches the surface in showing some of his ridiculous body motions.
   I'm pretty sure he does the same thing when playing classical stuff. The first thing I ever saw him play was either a shostakovich prelude and fugue or similar and was amazed at his actions. Especially how he stands up and sways his mid-section.
   He also makes annoying kind of moaning sounds as he sings along to his playing.
   I still think that Lang Lang has him beat for facial expressions though!

Keith Jarrett kicks @$$. I saw him live in Carnegie Hall last year playing in his new style of several short improvisations one after the other. Some of his best stuff! They recorded it---I hope it comes out on CD!

Haven't heard his Mozart, but I've heard Chick Corea's Mozart (he is on the vid here), and he's horrible at it!

Yep, and he is the only one to be the sole recipient (not share the honors with another).

Even Ligeti had to share it with B.B. King. LOL
