I wish I could exercise and lose weight. It seems all it ever does is make me gain muscle, which is even heavier.
But to sit and magically lose weight isn't my style. I want to be more active.

I, on the other hand, don't expect anybody to be a god or goddess to me. I just expect them to be ethical and consistent. Different people do different things best.

how old in enzo? you should contact the people at the famed interlochen academy if he's eligible (they have a fantastic , no incredible pre college program, i believe scholarship help is generous for the most talented if he is able to apply)
it is probably among the top several of the finest high school/precollege fine arts boarding schools in the world. They have a very well respected summer program too!

But it's simply impossibile that such a talented young pianist can't find a prestigious scholarship to continue his studies abroad!!!!
Follow Enrique's advice. In the while, If I heard of a similar opportunity here in Italy or in other European countries, I'll let you know....

and really, work may have made me depressed, but there are good prospects
and possible good endorsements ... it is just that it will be next year and we have
nothing definite yet. On the other hand applications will only start on the 3rd
quarter of the year. Btw Enzo is 16 and will be 17 by the time he will enter college
next year.

also let me know if you want the contact inforamtion for one of the directors (at least she used to be i'd be surprised if someone else was handling the project now), but i know the lady who teaches and is in charge (at least to my knowledge here in the states) of the bosendorfer (piano) academy of music in vienna. she takes students over there every summer and many of my friends in the past have gone and learned (but more importantly ) relly enjoyed the experience. the instruction and environment is a really great place to grow, even if just for the summer.

as for music school/conservatory training, she would be a really good contact to reach out to for recruitment and scholarship info for where she teaches (she's artist in residence at a school in the states), and many come there just to study under her. send me a personal message and i can see about me emailing her your contaact info so she'll know to expect a message from you perhaps and you can prolly start a dialogue with her.).

as for the potty-shower combo, to my knowledge it is legit. perhaps a combnation of lack of space or just really bad design that wasn't thought through (maybe limited by a plumbing error so it could only go there, etc). i wonder how they handle the toilet paper dilemma...

I don't know what the days on either side of that look like, but I see that Rome is about 6 hours (driving) away, which would be really pushing it for a day trip alone. It seems that some people on this forum simply cannot leave Valentina Lisitsa alone, for some reason; we already have one thread devoted to being in love with her (which has little to do with piano playing or repertoire) and now this thread's become infected with some more of the same; I seem to remember that she's also featured in the "attractive pianists" thread AND she keeps appearing at London's Royal Albert Hall at the head of the thread lists page. Cause I just got back and felt the forum to be a bit "clean". Then started participating again, suddenly my "troll sense" seem to trigger quite more often than I expected. Maybe it's because I lost faith in the moderators and community members to weed out the trolls. I wish something would happen to change my sentiment.

Not sure it's the original (perhaps someone could enlighten me). My understanding is that the one Chopin used was thrown out the window by some Russian soldiers in 1863.

Well, how would you know, you obviously have not visited public toilets for men :)

You are not supposed to sit in those (or wash your hands). For a more detailed explanation just google "urinal".

But guess what? It is exactly the same drinking quality water that we use for our toilets in most western countries (shame on us).

But maybe drinking that close to a urinal isn't very pleasant...

Oh yeah totally I noticed that at first too but then wrongly thought it was for the drainage. But yeah lol ok that looks really nasty.

However, bear in mind that a straight tenth in those idioms isn't nearly as rhythmically interesting as broken tenths, either up or down, anyway. What you do in those styles, isn't really rolling but rapid jumping with the first note played prior to the beat, not on it as many people try. This creates a very exciting rhythmic counterpoint impossible to achieve by playing straight. I can actually stretch all tenths but for that reason hardly ever do. So I wouldn't bother worrying that you're missing out on a lot.

Yeah... not the best idea. Being tall is inconvenient, and 1-foot soles would be really hard to walk in.

I'm sorry. Being sick is never fun. Hope you get better soon! In the meantime, drink lots of fluids, rest, and hope for the best. I find vegetable soup particularly effective.

Can't sleep because of the cough and now I am a bit worried about my lesson on Monday...

I have not cancelled one lesson with my present teacher (since September 2011) and in my case it's a bit of a miracle...I have started and not finished more courses than I can remember because I'm just too lazy to go every time and eventually drop out.

I was able to play one of my pieces through almost the way I wanted with only a couple of tiny mistakes and my teacher said it sounded beautiful. And she certainly does not say things like that often. Of course there was also a comment how to make the right hand better (it's a bit hard to adjust the balance with such a different piano than mine), but that's ok, I'll keep working on it :)

One more lesson and then 3 weeks break. I got 3 more pieces to work on plus the ones I struggle with now so I will be quite busy... so many notes to learn... I wish I'll be able to play them all in January.

i'm not saying that the more 'proper' ovations we sometimes here are bad, just that i wish audiences would loosen up a little sometimes and let out some more spirited approval/appreciation for musicians on traditional stages.
