Now here's the question: Who is worse; Maksim Mrvca or Tim Hofman?

I vote the latter, since even in Maksim's hands, it takes less than 30 seconds to actually recognise the original music.

Lang Lang, Kissin, Perahia, Hamelin, Stephen Hough, Brendel, Pascal Roge, jean phillipie collard, Leif ove Andsnes

All spring to mind, and I could go on listing

Tim Hoffman........ guy wearing gloves playing piano!!, yeh, thats great, its almost as bad as the guy who played a concert in handcuffs.

I thank Tim Hoffman for brightening my day up

That was a freaking disgrace to Chopin.

I consider Chopin the greatest lyrical pianist ever to live, and I belive that his music should be played full of emotion.... or at least sounding HALF decent!!!

Out of respect for the composer man!!

I can't believe this thread is just going on and on.  I will strive to provide a little perspective.

Tim Hofman is a real person. (TimHofmanFan is not. He's a member of this forum having a little fun. Stevie, perhaps?) Tim Hofman is a lounge pianist. And as one, I'm sure, he's probably very successful. Weddings, bar mitvahs, anniversary parties, etc. A little background music over dinner. Will gladly do requests. ("Play Lara's Theme from Dr. Zhivago.") I don't think he's trying to present himself as a "serious" pianist. (Whatever that is.) Let's face it, Liberace made a fortune by taking the lounge pianist to the circus/sideshow/Vegas spectacular level.

Yeah, the website is a little cheesey. The hair...? Let's face it he's got great hair. Maybe a little dated but Fabio made an entire career out of his hair. The gloves...? A little strange.

Look at http://www.oksana-k.com/discography.php. Okay, she is a much better pianist but like Tim she is marketing herself, as well as her music.

I had posted an earlier message on this thread calling the original post "spam", which I still think it is. I hate when people post a url and ask for comments, when all I think they want is to sell a CD or something.

But, I think we should now just let this thread die. Realize we've all been perhaps a little mean spirited. A little catty. Downright nasty. Let's face it, the guy's just trying to make a living. (I for one would love to make a living making music. Rehearsal pianist, accompanist, even lounge player...anything, rather than the spirit deadening job I have right now.)

Yes we have been a little mean, but you can't throw a kitten into a den  of tigers and expect them all to get along can you lol.  The poor fellow just posted his links in the wrong place.  This thread  is far from spam either, it's gone on for 4 pages which alone implies people are enjoying it.  It's in the miscellaneous forum and is about someones website, style and recordings, even if they are all terrible.  Plus, it's thrown up some interesting debates about alterings composers wishes to suite your situation/abilty/job.  So I like this thread, and I like Tim Hofman, because everytime I picture that photo of him against the wall, it makes me smile and brightens up my day lol.  So good luck to Mr Tim, just never post here again, loose the gloves and all will be fine.

When I first read the initial posting, I just shook my head and dismissed it as one of the most god-awful examples of shameless self-promotion by someone with dubious moderate talent at the piano and not worthy of a response.

Now, after seeing how the thread has developed, I'm convinced it's an elaborate, well played out hoax on us all and I've had a good laugh at the whole thing.

No one could be that cheesy.

If, on the other hand he is legitimate, Hofman has made a significant and enduring contribution to the 'Lounge Lizard's Guide to Muzak', wouldn't you agree?!

Cheers

he looks like the not-so-good-looking version of tom cruise's portayal of Lestat de Lioncourt in the film Interview with the Vampire... lestat played the piano too...

there are actually some people who could enjoy his music... so don't be so mean. he's better than I am at playing the piano, but of course that's not a good reason to praise him either...

oh well... maybe he intended to modify classical pieces for the purposes of cheesy soap opera soundtrackssss  ........ he could make money.. and so can you! hahahaah

or remember the film "Somewhere in Time?" name me a worse version of an improvisation of Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a theme by paganini...

geez... these people make more $$$ than mediocre classical artists!

why do so many people want this thread to die? if there are 160 replies, that seems to me that people actually LIKE this thread.
But many of these replies have expressed negative comment about the site concerned - and a disproportionately large number of these replies are actually seeking the demise of the thread...

Wow....

I have only just this minute decided to read this thread, and skipping to this page I find (assuming the previous 3 pages are similar) that you have all been insulting this man! I feel kind of sorry for him...

I'm suprised that it's taken this many pages and replies to end the insulting, and frankly I'm horrified too. I never would have thought that this kind of behaviour was apparent to such a degree in this forum.

I hope the guy didn't get depressed from this...

I believe Depression is classified as a Mental Health Disorder, if he induced this from 170 posts of flames, then I'll be a Hedgehog with super powers.

Although despite your use of the word, I see what you mean anyway *Nods* Depression is a word thrown around too much... there is not enough words for Sadness, Theseasaurus!

 Please choose something else:
Bereaved, bitter, blue, cheerless, dejected, depressed (what?), despairing, despondent, disconsolate, dismal, distressed, doleful, down, downcast, forlorn, gloomy, glum, grief-stricken, grieved, heartbroken, heartsick, heavy-hearted, hurting, in doldrums, in grief, languishing, low, low-spirited, lugubrious, melancholy, morbid, morose, mournful, pensive, pessimistic, somber, sorrowful, sorry, troubled, weeping, wistful, woebegone.

He might be Pensive and Lugubrious :/ Seriously, why is Depressed in there? It's not the same, I'm so gonna Email Dictionary.com in outrage... for something to do. Someone flame me now, hehe... I will laugh in response.

I said depressed meaning the broad meaning of 'feeling bad', not being technically diagnosed with depression as that's 'feeling bad' nearly all the time, and making nearly everything in your life contribute to it, and as you said a mental illness.

But it would be cool to see a real life Sonic, so I do mean it the way you said it Tongue
