Scriabin: Prelude Op. 11 No. 23 fingering
« on: July 11, 2002, 07:22:52 PM »

I'm working on this piece and need help or suggession for fingering (There is no fingering in the edition I use).

Well, could anyone give me some idea about fingering? For example,in bar 1,2,10,15 my hand is too small to reach the key without skip and that will make a small gap between that note.

Does the gap is OK when using pedel? I did it as well in Op. 11 No. 1 at the beginging like this 5 2 4 2 1 5_2. At 5_2, I slide my hand to the right in stead of using 4 1 (passing thumb under).

Hi.

Don't worry about the gap in Bar 1+2, that's ok since you play these preludes in a very BACHian style.
I guess that in bar four you could take the d# and the c on beat one with the right hand, on beat three you should take the f# with the left one.
In bar 15 you should just roll the chords; pedaling will cover the gap in the right hand, so don't worry about that. Wink

If you don't want gaps, try to change fingers on a key while pressing it. But since that prelude is played fast you don't need to try that.

Hope that helps a little. Good luck with that piece.

Thank you, Diabolos. I'm not sure we are talking in the same prelude or not. I looked in my score there is no D#, C and F# in bar 4. Anyway, I got the idea about pedal and gap.

So, I don't have to care about the gap that much as long as it is not noticeable with the help of pedal, right?

Thanks

Well, I'm not sure either, since in the prelude I looked at there were gaps too - but one never knows  Cool

And yeah, you shouldn't care too much about these gaps; the sound is what it all comes down to - and it may still sound smooth if you cannot play that legato. That's what the pedal's there for.
