Autographs?
on: March 26, 2008, 12:27:03 PM
Heya,

Since I don't have 2.000.000 £, I can't afford to buy any Beethoven manuscripts, but I'd really like to see some - I've been searching around for them, but can't seem to find anything. I'm especially interested in the op. 26 sonata, but any autographs would be cool to see, also by other composers as well.

Does anyone publish copies of these autographs by chance?

Facsimiles of Beethoven's works are available, but I have to warn, they're generally extremely expensive. Your best bet is heading to your local University and seeing if any of the lecturers have an interest in Beethoven's work.

The autograph for Op.26 doesn't exist.

Here are the ones that do exist:
Op. nos. 27 no.2 (missing first page), 28, 53, 57, 78, 79, 81a (first movement only) 90, 101, 109, 110, and 111.

That's what I thought too - But in his lecturerecitals, Andras Schiff claims that op. 26 is the first sonata for which a manuscript exists..

He must be refering to copies of the manuscript, not the manuscript itself.

Ok. But it isn't possible to find images of them on the net then?
