"You" -- improv 9.9.08

Okay, this starts a little funny because when I was doing chromatic scales I felt this improv being born, so I stood up, hit the record button and went back to the chromatics (and they aren't perfect  ).  Anyway, I don't have any perspective on this recording right now, I just know I felt connected and that it was about time I felt connected again.  Hope you enjoy

Me? If I thought in colors, I'd say you're name was purple. For a while I really thought you were impersonating Mayla, an eerily well studied imposter - more likely an equally interested successor. I'm glad that you *are* Mayla, but it's hard to get used to the new color. Same mind, same thinking, but I read one with different lighting than I read the other, an interesting mental thing.

If this is the first improv posted by Karli, it has the same honest inward, concentrated destination - the unconscious zone - that I've known in those of Mayla, who would often lose herself in her own spontaneity and find supporters abound. In this respect, this form of improvisation hits on an area that no other genre of music can touch, and even the same notes removed from the first conception often does not produce the same (while the recordings always end up perpetually imaginative, which is fascinating). This improv has nothing to do with the chromatic scale it might have been formed out of; or at a certain point you find yourself, and everything else zones out, and this balance and footing was not born out of, or cannot be traced back to the chromatic scale. That's my interpretation, though I don't know if I effectively communicated it. The end acts a perfect lullaby to send me off on a cloud.

I felt that you started with a structure in mind, and gradually let the music take over.   The expression was a body in itself, and continually moved to an ease of speaking its own mind.
