Some important questions.

Are there set rules on the reproduction and distribution of music?

Am I allowed to download to my mp3 and listen to recordings from the internet?
(Glenn Gould?)

Is my teacher allowed to copy one of her pieces so I can study it?

Am I allowed to share my piano book to other students?

It is illegal to duplicate copyright material with the intention of keeping the copy.

well I download myself but I do buy cd and music sheet of my own. If I really like interpreter I will purchase that copy. Atleast you've not selling the copy to someone else.

Depending on where you live, there are certain rules. As far as I know, in my country, it is allowed to copy books and music as long as it's for educational purposes. So teachers and students may copy. But you are not allowed to sell copies. There's a thin line between lending and piracy.

In some countries, I think, downloading/photocopying, even book lending, is illegal.
