Question regarding sight reading.

When learning to sight read, should I think about each note I'm playing when I'm reading it, or trust my fingers to learn which note goes where on the piano?

The short answer is No. Don't think about the notes. Start with the simplest material in which you don't need to identify the notes consciously. Learning to trust your fingers instinctively to play the correct keys without thinking is the whole point.
